Havant and Bedhampton Community Board: Membership

Dear Helen Wood,

At the last Havant and Bedhampton Community Board meeting on 28th June 2006, there was only one person to join the Board. However, I understood from a conversation with David Harris, the then Community Board Support Officer, that there were two vacancies on the board.

In my E-mail of 19th June 2006, to David Harris, I wrote:

“As far as the Board is concerned, I would like to contribute but am reluctant to compete with the two other applicants, candidates, for the two places which are all that seems to remain.”

At the Havant and Bedhampton Community Board meeting of 28th June 2006 there was only one of those applicants, who duly became a member of the Board. When we met during that meeting, I mentioned this and you said you thought there was only one vacancy. I queried that, so you said you would check and let me know. As yet I have heard nothing.

From the Havant Borough Council Web Site, as well as previous telephone enquires, my understanding is that the Council is committed to a high standard regarding answering telephone calls, E-mails, letters, or, presumably, questions asked in person; specifically, within a maximum of ten working days. As far as the conversation referred to is concerned, the ten working days took us up to the 12th July 2006.

As I said during our conversation, as well as in the E-mail to David Harris, I wish to contribute to the community, as well as far beyond it, and have been trying to do so for some time. How and why are known, have been on the Internet for a while and should receive a mere direct airing in the not too distant future; certainly if my business adviser, publicist, etc., match their reputation.

On the face of it, it is odd that Havant Borough Council should ignore, discourage, such a wish to contribute; knowing of a wider picture I have already predicted outcomes as far as the Havant and Bedhampton Community Board is concerned. What you said about the complement of the board being complete with no other vacancies, as you seemed to think at he time, could well fit a pattern, the lack of a response certainly does.

Those predictions would have been published on one of my Web Sites by now, as opposed to just being in my computer diary and on draft web pages, but for commitments with my business adviser, proof reader, editor, publisher, as well as my ongoing clients and family matters (helping my daughter and partner refurbish a house and move into it), which have been time consuming but temporary; the book commitments are in their final stages.

I would be grateful for written clarification of the Havant and Bedhampton Community Board
Membership and numbers as promised on 28th June.

Regards,

Richard King
